Attached is a guide for leaders in alternative provision (AP) which has been written by a number of us who lead trusts, provisions and networks across the country. We hoped it might be useful to share it with our networks at this challenging time. Please feel free to share with any colleagues if you think they might find it helpful.

Penwith Alternative Provision Academy which provides education for pupils who have been excluded from school has been given top marks by Ofsted for continuing to provide an 鈥渙utstanding鈥� quality of education for all its pupils. Inspectors highlight the inspirational leadership and the quality of teaching and say the school goes 鈥渁bove and beyond鈥� in supporting its pupils to achieve.

Poems written by four primary aged pupils from Wave鈥檚 Penwith Academy have been published in a new book after impressing judges in the national Young Writers 鈥楶eculiar Pets鈥� poetry competition. 

As parents, pupils and teachers across the country wait to hear when and how schools will officially re-open following the relaxation of lockdown restrictions, Wave is continuing to do what it does best 鈥� providing the highest quality education for its pupils and equipping them with the skills they need for both education and life.

Clare Barden, the Principal of Penwith Alternative Provision Academy, and Helen Casson, who heads Cornwall鈥檚 Community and Hospital Education Service (CHES) , have been sent personal letters of congratulation from the Regional Schools Commissioner for the South West Lisa Mannall in recognition of the 鈥淥utstanding鈥� quality of education they are providing for their pupils.

A new long-term partnership between Together for Families, part of Cornwall Council, and the Wave Trust has been established to support Cornwall鈥檚 children and schools.

Staff at Wave Trust鈥檚 academies in Cornwall and Devon are rightly proud of the artistic achievements of their pupils. Last year talented young artist Tegan Rowe won first prize for her age group in the prestigious Young Art Cornwall competition, with artwork produced by pupils from the Shoreline Academy in Barnstaple winning first prize in the Young Art Devon competition in February. Now two Wave academies in Cornwall are taking part in an exciting new programme being led by the Crafts Council.
