North Cornwall Academy is located in Bodmin. We work closely with all of the secondary and primary schools within our partnership to ensure the needs of those most vulnerable pupils are met. Our curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of our pupils and staff work extremely hard to ensure pupils are given every opportunity to succeed and aspire. We work closely with a diverse range of outside agencies both statutory and voluntary so that our young people can access the support and guidance they need. The staff are very hardworking and creative and always go the extra mile with the young people on roll.
There is also a strong vocational aspect to our curriculum that can include experience of work e.g. individual work placements, or as part of a group of students at offsite venues such as Dartmoor Zoo, the Air Museum or Screech Owl Sanctuary.
We also aim to provide our students with positive experiences to support their development socially, underpinned by our Trust values, and to enable access to enrichment opportunities they may never otherwise experience. Our location gives us access to many places of outstanding natural beauty.
Of course, as a Trauma Informed Academy, we have high expectations, and know that qualifications open doors. However, we recognise that, for a period of time, a young person may not be able to be challenged academically as much as we’d like, and this is where our curricular flexibility and a Trauma Informed Approach comes into play. You can read more about this here: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) and Developmental Trauma

Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy
Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy
North Cornwall Academy recognises that the safety and welfare of children is paramount and that we have a responsibility to protect children in all of our academy activities. We take all reasonable steps to ensure, through appropriate procedures and training, that all children, irrespective of sex, age, disability, race, religion or belief, sexual identity or social status, are protected from abuse.
We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow procedures to ensure that children and young people receive effective support, protection and justice.
We listen to our pupils and take seriously whet they tell us, children are aware of the adults they can talk to if they have a concern. When there are concerns for a child's welfare, we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies. We will ensure concerns are discussed with parents/.carers first unless we have reason to believe that by doing so would be contrary to the child's welfare.
Our Child Protection and Safeguarding policy underpins and guides our safeguarding procedures and protocols.
